Flowering Cacti No. 002
A joyful burst of flowering cacti that emerged during a time of deep healing. Therapy brought me back to age 16, when my dad had cancer. A time where I was creative without being so damn serious. In our final conversation, he told me to go to Art Center, to be an illustrator, to follow my dreams. I hustled hard, buried the grief, and got in after multiple rejections, head down and focused.
For 25 years I kept that intensity: Art Center, Disney, studio jobs, teaching myself illustration on the side, constant side projects, and building my own freelance business. By then I was a true blend of designer and illustrator, but always so serious. In therapy I discovered that buried grief had fueled anxiety and shaped my whole path as a trauma response. My therapist helped me reframe: my entire career and creativity were in honor of him. Powerful. This piece was painted in that shift, a little looser than my earlier work, the first hint of bold, unapologetic freedom. The flowering cacti that feel ready to outgrow the composition mirror those moments of growth and outgrowing old limits.

For simplicity, I offer one neutral frame color that complements the bold, layered energy of the artwork. If you’d like something else or matting, most sizes are standard and can be taken to your local framer for custom framing.
DETAILS:
- Natural Oak: a warm, versatile wood that complements the bold, layered energy of the artwork. As real wood, each frame has its own unique grain and slight color variation. No two are exactly alike.
- Framed Paper prints: Mounted to foam core and secured inside a solid oak frame with optical-grade acrylic glazing. Shatter resistant, lightweight, and low-glare. No mat, so the full edge-to-edge composition is preserved exactly as intended.
- Framed canvas: Floating frame design. Artwork appears to float within the frame for a modern, elevated look
- Ready to hang: Hanging wire installed on all framed options
