Watch Over Them
This path is near my home in the hills above Acton, close to where I grew up in the desert. Both dogs in this painting have passed. We spread Dido's ashes here and I asked my dad to watch over her. Yuzu's ashes will join her here too. I still walk my current dogs on this same path. The leashes stay in the painting on purpose. They’re the thread connecting the dog walks now to the ones who aren’t here anymore, and to my dad watching over them.
Painting this led me to start painting pet portraits. It felt like bringing Dido and Yuzu back to life, if only for a moment. It’s also one of my favorite examples of what people miss about this landscape. Everyone calls it beige, but morning light like this turns the hills purple and gold and rose. There’s more color here than people expect.

For simplicity, I offer one neutral frame color that complements the bold, layered energy of the artwork. If you’d like something else or matting, most sizes are standard and can be taken to your local framer for custom framing.
